The Daily Countable: Trump Pursues Trade Abroad, While Democrats Push Progressive Agenda At Home

by Countable | 11.9.17

On the Radar

Greetings, Countable users! The highs and lows of federal politics and the news cycle continue unabated.

  • This week's elections were historic, and are likely to herald significant policy changes in some states as Democrats push for progressive policies around healthcare, the environment and marijuana legalization. What could that mean for you? Read about it here.

  • Also, the president continues his Asian tour, wading deep into the question of the U.S.-China trade relationship. Does China make out better than the U.S. in that relationship? The president thinks so. But he also says it's not China's fault, "After all, who can blame a country for being able to take advantage of another country for benefit of their citizens? I give China great credit."

Under the Radar

  • The president addressed the South Korean National Assembly Wednesday, as well as North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Un directly. Are his strong warnings to Kim justified and appropriate, or is he fanning the flames of war? Read more about the speech and tell us what you think.

  • And before we all dive into anticipation of the next election, we want to know about this one. Did you get a sticker, and what's the history behind the 'I Voted' sticker anyway? You can also leave us a video describing your voting experience and telling us why you vote right here.

Your Gov at a Glance 👀

The White House: President Trump in DC

  • President Trump and Chinese President Xi will give a joint press statement mid-day Beijing time.
  • The president and First Lady will also attend a cultural performance in the evening following the state dinner.

The House of Representatives: In Session

  • Voting on a bill to allow small businesses to offer non-public securities under certain circumstances.

The Senate: In Session

  • Confirmation vote on the nomination of William Wehrum to be an Assistant Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency

  • Cloture vote on the nomination of Derek Kan to be Under Secretary of Transportation for Policy

That's it for today, CountaCitizens! Hope to see you back here tomorrow. As always, questions, concerns and kudos can all be sent to me @RadioBabe or andrea@countable.us.

I find it disturbing that a member of our government gets accused of sexual harassment and gets asked to step down, while trump has been accused by 14 different women and congress still stands behind him. Trumps agenda is for himself and the rich, the entire GOP has done nothing to protect the constituents. It’s time to drain the swamp and get rid of all of them. The treats against the world and America need to stop.

The governorship elections in New Jersey and Virginia were not historic and do not claim that they were! Like I posted a couple of days ago the Democrat Party is turning in circles and does not no what to do as they are preparing for the massive fallout after what Donna Brazille revealed! Clinton's and Obama beware as there will be an appointed special council soon and charges of treason and racketeering will be forth coming! Moving on. The president's trip to the Far East and Western Pacific is a great success as no American president ever has been so welcomed. He's being treated like a God over there while liberal American media continues to accost him and can't prove anything. The Economy has picked up as many are back to work and foreign governments are investing here as well as jobs coming back! There are good well paying jobs to be had if one truly wants to go to work and is not afraid to get dirty! And learn!!!!! As for North Korea? That Liberation has been put into works as The People's Republic realizes how much of a thorn they are in their side! I don't think we'll have North Korean nukes exploding over us or any of our allies! Things are in the works!

Rep. Wittman - the President is once again bashing our country and former leaders while abroad. Out of retribution and with not understanding, has removed us from international agreements that stand to have long term negative impacts on the US. He has ushered in unprecedented corruption and widely unethical behavior that is damaging the very fiber of our country. I am asking you again to stand for ethical and common sense behavior and decisions. Country over party.

Jesse, you must be watching fake news. This President has done more in less than a year than Obama did in 8 yrs. watch a news station that tells the truth and be respectful to our President, I was to Obama and he is going down as the worse President the country has ever had. Get your facts straight

Denna, who cares what these men have done years ago. Almost all our President has had affairs. Look at President Kennedy he would have them at the White House. That’s their business , and all these women coming out 10 to 20 years later that sounds fishy to me. I would say they r money hungry and wants to sue.

I agree that the church of scientology should have their tax exemption revoked as the organization is a cult and uses kidnapping and undue pressure to forced money from their members.
