The Daily Countable: The Day After Democrats' Election Wave

by Countable | 11.8.17

Welcome to The Day After, Countable friends. No matter what you think of last night's election returns, today is the day to redouble our focus on communicating our opinions, ideals and needs to our employees — the people who represent us in our government. Keep on them!

On the Radar

Under the Radar

  • The latest GOP tax proposal would eliminate the current credit for people who adopt children. This has angered many adoption advocates, some of whom are calling it a "pro-life" issue. Read more here.

  • With the incredible pace of events in these times, it can be hard to keep any one subject in mind for very long — including the fact that this year's hurricane season was devastating to large swaths of the U.S. As recovery continues, have we — and our representatives — forgotten? More here.

Speaker Ryan, you are sadly mistaken about why Dems won these interim elections. This did not happen because of unfulfilled campaign promises. It happened because of the Trump/Bannon ideology.

Republicans have sold their party out to privileged corruption, biased social propaganda and outright unpatriotic behavior in disgusting quantities. Good Luck with your Future in America...

Democrats were the majority of voters in the presidential election, so it is no surprise that a stolen Supreme Court seat, anti-democratic loss of the presidency due to the quirks of the electoral college, and being completely left out of the legislative process leads to even greater numbers of Democrats at the ballot box. A large majority of people want guaranteed affordable healthcare, a true fair shake when it comes to salaries, a good education available to all without risk of bankruptcy, more social acceptance for people of all stripes who are just quietly living their lives, better infrastructure and services for our tax dollars, and a place at the political table rather than being shoved aside in favor of big-dollar donors. The Republican Party is ignoring that at its peril.

Trump will never admit to owning the mess he has created but we will be heard and we will be counted by those in the American political system who care about America and Americans.

About the elections last night; diversity won, unity won, facts won, science won, issues won, healthcare won, voting rights won, honesty won, being qualified won, the people won. These are all what the corporate white supremacist Putin/republicans are against. there are more of us than you Doug LaMalfa!

Finally. The Democrats finally have gained a foothold which will be very important in the midterms. In West Virginia!

I believe some of what was on the minds of Virginians were Healthcare concerns. The Republican Tax Plan is a scheme to reward the rich and do away with social programs that assist people of lesser means, and to defund Planned Parenthood which offers life-saving support for women. Planned Parenthood does not perform abortions and they don’t use Federal money for abortions. If Planned Parenthood could educate and support women with their healthcare issues and birth control, most likely the abortion rate would drop. I regard Republican efforts as a war against women, people of color, and people who are gay or transgender. Since I am a woman, they are at war with me. And they won’t get my vote or support.

It happened for one simple reason and that is because of the GOP passing or trying to pass legislation that only hurts Americans. Not to mention the Trump regime along with Speaker Ryan and McConnell have devided this country like never before.

I am a voter that looks at all candidates and determines who would represent me best. I do not look at party but the person. But not anymore. After the election in 2016, I will vote opposite of the Republican Party until a candidate is in the WH and represents me and my values!! So this was a vote against the Republican do-nothing platform and DT.

The moronic, racist, GOP would rather follow Adolf over the cliff than admit that he is the CLOWN that normal people can clearly see! I️, for one, will enjoy the show until next November.

Democratic wave? Let’s just hope that all parties remember who they are running to represent, average Americans, not corporations, not the super rich 1% and not only people who look, like they do. Our Government should be inclusive and not represent only one segment but all of us.

It’s time to save the Republican Party! Dump Trump and his inflammatory agenda. Impeach him now or see the Republican Party torn apart like what happened in Virginia.

I love it! Everyone in NJ and VA- get out a pen and paper and right down the taxes rates, crime statistics, unemployment rates, as well as your level of gov’t services. A year from now measure and write down the same stats and compare the 2 lists! When you see that the Democrat Party way is the way of failure- you’ll have learned the hard way what most people already know- socialism never works!!!!

I consider myself an independent. I made a protest vote against the Republicans. I cannot support a team that is not for the hard working people in this country. No, they are supporting their own and wealthy interests. No thank you.

This is a strong message. WAKE UP!!! The kool-aid probably tastes a bit bitter about now. Maybe once the indictments reach “his highness” the republicans will feel the need to make a substantive change.
