3 Bills in Congress Aim to Make Election Day More Convenient
Vote to see how others feel about this issue
One week from today, voters across America will cast ballots that determine the makeup of the 116th Congress. But before the 115th Congress adjourns for good at the end of the year, here’s a look at three bills it could take up for votes that aim to make Election Day more convenient for Americans:
The Louise Slaughter Weekend Voting Act would turn Election Day into Election Weekend by moving federal general elections to the Saturday & Sunday after the first Friday in November, instead of the following Tuesday. It’s named after the New York congresswoman who passed away earlier this year.
Sen. Bernie Sanders’ (I-VT) Democracy Day Act would make the day of federal general elections a public holiday called “Democracy Day” and make it easier for people to vote.
The Time Off to Vote Act would require that employees be provided with two hours of paid lead on a federal election day to vote. Employers could determine the two-hour period, which couldn’t overlap with lunch or other break time or count against accrued leave benefits.
Tell your reps whether they should vote on these bills during the lame duck session and share your thoughts below!
