VP Pence Walks Out Of Football Game In Protest
Join us and tell your reps how you feel!
On Sunday Vice President Mike Pence abruptly walked out of an NFL game between the Indianapolis Colts and the San Francisco 49ers early when some players took a knee during the national anthem. CNN reports that to add the Indianapolis leg to the Vice President's trip cost taxpayers approximately $242,500.
The Vice President's office issued an official statement to say that the trip had been on Pence's schedule for weeks:

But President Donald Trump tweeted that he had asked Pence in advance to leave if any players knelt:
I asked @VP Pence to leave stadium if any players kneeled, disrespecting our country. I am proud of him and @SecondLady Karen.

Journalist Jake Tapper confirmed that press pool reporters were instructed to stay in their vans because the Vice President would likely be leaving early:
4/ The Pool reporter covering @VP was told to stay in the van in the parking lot and that @VP would leave the game early

Lawmakers and celebrities hit Twitter with responses to the incident, but regular citizens have also filled Twitter since mid-day Sunday. Here are some statements by supporters of the Vice President's actions:
I am an US Army veteran and I thank you for standing up for the flag of our country.

Good for you buddy- nice display of dignity, poise, and respect! Well done!

The dishonest liberal media, their trolls & NFL attacked VP Pence & POTUS for this Brave walkout, but all decent people admire this bravery. pic.twitter.com/fS99abjnFT

And here are some tweets opposing Pence's actions:
You don't even realize you're on a sinking ship. You're mad at the NFL? Really? But not the Nazi rally today?

So...you used the national anthem as a means of political protest, huh? 🤔
— Anna Maltese 🏹 (@MalteseAnna) October 9, 2017
My soldier husband would have fought to protect the protesters but he's dead from Agent Orange, you disrespect his sacrifice.
— doris jane franklin (@donewithorange) October 9, 2017
And one Twitter account took things to the next level, by composing a poem:
There is an old fellow named Pence

Whose hobby is taking offence.
He does it some days
In gimmicky ways
As well as at public expense.
What do you think?
Was Vice President Pence right to walk out when players took a knee during the national anthem? Should he even have gone at all, given the likelihood of protests? Was this a principled stand or a publicity stunt?
