Countable asks: The Natural Resources Defense Council said "this is a win for consumers." The Flavor and Extract Manufacturers Association said they believe the NRDC findings that led to the ban demonstrate "a limited interpretation of animal studies and cancer by failing to address risk or relevance in humans." Do you support the ban? Tell your reps whether you Support or Oppose it, then share your thoughts below.
The FDA is placing a ban on seven synthetic food additives after a petition created by environmental groups laid a case linking the additives to cancer, reports NPR.
The details: The petition, created by the Natural Resources Defense Council, Center for Food Safety, and the Center for Science in the Public Interest, laid out scientific facts proving that the synthetic additives benzophenone, ethyl acrylate, methyl eugenol, myrcene, pulegone and pyridine were linked to causing cancer in animals. The FDA is giving food manufacturers time to remove the additives before they are penalized.

This is a great example of how Corporations have owned the FDA and still control them. It took organizations of Citizens to put together 100’s of millions of dollars of research to prove that what the greedy, unethical corporations are putting into our food, is harmful. Why should Citizens have to pay to stop Corporations abuse? Why is our Government who we pay taxes for not protecting its citizens from Corporations preying on humans?
It’s about time !
The fda is well on its way to banning food and drugs.
Pretty sure this is one of the things we can agree with no matter party, race, gender and expect that the government should protect us from poison.
Cleaner food without Synthetics is better for consumers. So yes please ban synthetics .
There are cases of tropical islands recording a monthly average of zero degrees — this is the mean of the daily highs and lows for the month. A spot in Romania spent one whole month averaging minus 45 degrees. One site in Colombia recorded three months of over 80 degrees C. That is so incredibly hot that even the minimums there were probably hotter than the hottest day on Earth. In some cases boats on dry land seemingly recorded ocean temperatures from as far as 100km inland The only explanation that could make sense is that Fahrenheit temperatures were mistaken for Celsius, and for the next seventy years at the CRU no one noticed.
Finally, FDA-doing something favorable to all of us.
It’s time to improve our food supply.
the fewer additives the better. Our bodies put up with enough chemicals
We need tighter rules on food additives. People need safe and natural food. Stop hyper capitalism!
What is going on with reducing heath care cost
Yuck! Out with synthetics in our food.
I'm getting tired of people dying for manufacturer's convenience. It's past time to tighten up our laws. And enforce them...
Hopefully Trump and the Republicans will let the FDA ban stand since it may hurt corporate profits.
I support the ban on food additives
Make organic food cheap and any inorganic food expensive. See how much better people will be and feel.
These additives are not needed to make good tasting and safe food.
Food additives are not inherently bad, but it is the law to ban those substances known to cause cancer for use in food. The FDA did their job to support public health based on scientific evidence.
Please get rid of additives. Thank you
Vote yes except Democrats then vote no because they will sacrifice the good of the American people to advance their power and Socialist ideas
Guess there’s no money to be made with the additives
