It’s difficult to stay up-to-date on what’s happening in this country and to break through the clutter, so we’re here to make it easier. Here’s what we at Countable are reading today:
TIME Magazine named President-Elect Donald Trump as its Person of the Year for 2016. Trump joins Franklin D. Roosevelt, Bill Clinton, and Barack Obama as the only presidents to be named Person of the Year in the year they were first elected.

"Congress is poised to pass a bill this week to fund the government through April, boost defense spending, provide aid to flood-ravaged states and to the lead-poisoned residents of Flint, Mich., and reimburse New York City for a fraction of the cost of protecting President-elect Donald Trump."
"The new legislation unveiled late Tuesday would fund the government at an annual rate of $1.07 trillion through April 28, leaving it to Trump and the new Congress to approve another spending bill in the spring to keep federal agencies running through September, the end of the 2017 fiscal year."

"House Speaker Paul Ryan is unbothered by President-elect Donald Trump’s business conflicts."
""This is not what I’m concerned about in Congress,” Ryan said Wednesday during an interview on CNBC. “I have every bit of confidence he’s going to get himself right with moving from being the business guy that he is to the president he’s going to become.””

Shameful beyond words. This angry, vindictive, broken man to represent us on the world stage? This self-centered bully to have so much opportunity to inflict harm on the weak. How is it possible that so many were willing to buy this carnival barker's snake oil? I can only hope that people quickly wake up to the fact that they've been conned, as many suckers of Trump U did, and banish this little man forever.
I love how his cabinet is full of millionaires and billionaires who haven't worked a real job a day in their lives. Either that or he appoints an idiot with no experience in the field. And let's not forget the warmongers and religious zealots.
This makes me sick to my stomach.
If you want to see a chance for change, go to www.change.org and sign the petition to get rid of the electoral college and make Clinton President! Your voice has an influence, so make it count!
Making a neo Nazi, white supremacist Person of the Year boggles my mind. I am surprised Putin Trump were not combined as one. I anticipate an attempt to destroy our civil liberties.
Please stand against this atrocity. Show the people that you CARE about them. This vile man does not deserve to be recognized as Person of the Year when his hateful rhetoric has brought out such evil in his supporters. Claiming him as Person of the Year is giving power to not only him, but it empowers every racist, misogynist, and sexual predator in our country.
Way to go TIME for picking Trump to be the Person of the Year. Under the Emoluments Clause of the Constitution, Trump can NOT have any private interests outside the presidency UNLESS granted permission by Congress. Congress may grant Trump permission if what SOTH Ryan says what I believe him to be saying. Anyway, Trump will be the next president of the United States, and he will make America great again!
