This Week in Congress: Funding the Gov’t & Making the GOP Tax Cuts Permanent
Join us and tell your reps how you feel!
It’ll be a busy week on Capitol Hill as Congress looks to prevent the government from shutting down at midnight on Sunday when the House takes up a stopgap funding bill that contains $855 billion in funding for defense in addition to holding votes on Republicans’ Tax Reform 2.0 plan.
The House starts its week on Tuesday with votes on 38 relatively uncontroversial bills under the fast-track “suspension of the rules” process ― including a bill to eliminate gag rules that prohibit pharmacists from telling customers whether it's cheaper to use insurance or pay out-of-pocket for their prescriptions. The rest of the week will feature votes on a $855 billion “minibus” bill that also funds the rest of the government thru December 7th, a reauthorization of the Federal Aviation Administration, and legislation to make the GOP tax cuts for individuals, families, and businesses permanent. It will also vote on a resolution expressing the sense of the House that allowing unauthorized immigrants to vote diminishes the voting power of American citizens. Other bills, such as an extension of Farm Bill programs, could be added to the schedule.
The Senate opens its week Monday, when it’ll vote on the confirmation of Jackie Walcott to be U.S. Representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency. It will then vote to limit debate on the nomination of Peter Feldman to be a Commissioner of the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Its schedule for the rest of the week is yet to be announced, but it could include votes on multiple bills passed by the House to reauthorize programs expiring at the end of the month.
Check here throughout the week to see the vote results and updates to the schedule.
