It’s difficult to stay up-to-date on what’s happening in this country and to break through the clutter, so we’re here to make it easier. Here’s what we at Countable are reading today:
1. "Trump chooses Elaine L. Chao to be transportation secretary, Rep. Tom Price for Health and Human Services"
"President-elect Donald Trump has chosen former Bush administration official Elaine Chao as his transportation secretary, a position that will take on outsized importance with Trump’s plan to spend billions rebuilding the nation’s infrastructure, a person with knowledge of the decision said Tuesday." Chao is also the wife of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY).
"The Price nomination came in a news release early Tuesday that lavished praise on him, a third-generation doctor who chairs the House Budget Committee and became a champion of Trump’s candidacy. In naming him to join his Cabinet, the president-elect called Price “exceptionally qualified to shepherd our commitment to repeal and replace Obamacare and bring affordable and accessible health care to every American."”

2. "Gingrich calls Trump tweet about vote fraud a big mistake"
"In an interview Tuesday with Capital Download, Gingrich, a free-wheeling Trump adviser who is a vice-chairman of his transition team, described the president-elect as a leader who is poised to disrupt the regular order in a way no commander in chief has done since Andrew Jackson in the 19th century… But he also said that Trump’s biggest misstep in the three weeks since he won the White House was to post on Twitter Sunday a complaint asserting widespread voter fraud, and in an election he won."
""The president of the United States can’t randomly tweet without having somebody check it out,” Gingrich told USA TODAY’s weekly video newsmaker series. “It makes you wonder about whatever else he’s doing. It undermines much more than a single tweet.””

3. "New Hampshire chairman jumps into DNC race"
New Hampshire Democratic Party Chairman Ray Buckley announced his candidacy for Democratic National Committee chairman on Tuesday… Buckley’s announcement expands the field of candidates running to succeed interim DNC Chairwoman Donna Brazile to five, including South Carolina Democratic Party Chairman Jaime Harrison, former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean, and Rep. Keith Ellison."
""Make no mistake, if I am elected chair there will be radical reform of how the DNC operates. You and every member of the DNC will be called on to fully participate in the governance of our party,” Buckley wrote. “The DNC will be a team effort unlike what we have seen for many years. Every voice should be respected, every voice reflected in the Democratic Party.”

4. "Facebook says Zuckerberg’s controversial election posts deleted by ‘mistake’"
"As spotted by The Verge, Zuckerberg’s statements about the election and the spread of misinformation on Facebook vanished from his profile page Tuesday morning. Mashable confirmed they were gone, though they later reappeared."
"The glitch supposedly affected around 10 updates posted to Zuckerberg’s profile in the past two months, though Facebook would not provide any specific information about the glitch or which other posts were temporarily deleted. Several posts from around the same time were intact while the election posts were missing."

5. "The Internet Archive is building a Canadian copy to protect itself from Trump"
"The Internet Archive, a digital library nonprofit that preserves billions of webpages for the historical record, is building a backup archive in Canada after the election of Donald Trump. Today, it began collecting donations for the Internet Archive of Canada, intended to create a copy of the archive outside the United States."
""On November 9th in America, we woke up to a new administration promising radical change,” writes founder Brewster Kahle. “It was a firm reminder that institutions like ours, built for the long-term, need to design for change. For us, it means keeping our cultural materials safe, private and perpetually accessible. It means preparing for a web that may face greater restrictions. It means serving patrons in a world in which government surveillance is not going away; indeed it looks like it will increase.””
